Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Highmark Health.
Applications Developer
We started with a technical interview that was about an hour long, with the leads and managers from the team. They asked about my previous experience and technical questions, and also explained the company, role, and responsibilities. Then there were some HR and personality questions. As usual with most companies, there was a drug screening, fingerprints, and background check.
- Can you share the most difficult or uncomfortable situation you've encountered, both technically and within a team setting?
Applications Developer
It started with a phone call from an external company to quickly check your resume and your reasons for applying to Highmark. This part was not technical at all, just a discussion about your background. The final stage was an in-person interview at the company's offices. For an associate role, the interview wasn't overly difficult; basic Java and OOP knowledge is required. There are many online resources for common questions, so studying those will help significantly. A behavioral aspect is also included, so be ready to address some unusual hypothetical scenarios you might not have experienced yet.
- Can you list the access modifiers available in Java?
- Describe a time you took on too much work, leading to missed deadlines. How did you manage the situation and what was your communication with your manager and client?
Applications Developer
They'll quiz you on technical stuff. Most interviews have two people, one tech-focused and one management. They'll ask about your experience with the systems they handle. They also talk about the 24/7 365 support and alternating work schedules to show how the job balances the extra time needed with family life.
- Tell me about a challenging work situation you faced and how you dealt with it.
- How familiar are you with the systems we support?
- Can you discuss your understanding of 24/7 365 support and alternate work schedules?
