Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Highfive.
Software Developer
First, a recruiter called me to set up a phone interview. It was a video call where they asked about the company and my background. Then, I had a coding challenge. A couple of days later, I got an email for the on-site interview, which was a long day from 12 to 5 pm. It went pretty well overall; people were enthusiastic about their work and open to discussion, giving positive feedback. However, one interviewer was really bad. He'd ask a question and then stare at his laptop, not even listening. I tried to engage him by asking for clarification, but he told me to 'assume whatever you want.' After 30 minutes, I stopped and asked him about the bottleneck in my solution, to which he replied, 'everywhere if you assume.' He then gave me the last 10 minutes to ask questions, and I just said 'nothing' and 'I assume all.' He then mentioned the next person would join shortly. I felt like he ruined my half-day leave. It's important to be respectful and responsive during interviews.

Software Engineer - Android
Had an initial phone chat. We mostly discussed the company and its product. We also talked about my expectations and my experience with development processes. Lastly, the interviewer explained the hiring process at the company.
- Can you tell me about your experience with Android development?
Senior Software Engineer
This company is a total scam and should be avoided. I found them on LinkedIn and applied because the job description matched my skills. I got a rejection email, then an HR email asking for a phone screen. They made me download their app and do a video call interview. Instead of telling me about the role, the interviewer focused on a demo of their product. I thought I did great and the interviewer was happy, but then I heard nothing for three days. I emailed HR and got an automated rejection. A friend had the same experience, and so have others I know. Apparently, they just want people to download their app for the demo and don't actually hire anyone. If you have free time and don't care about your time, go ahead and interview with this shady company.
