Gameplay Programmer
The interview process started with a questionnaire and an online programming test, both of which were completed online and submitted via email. I'm not sure if this was the only round, so I can't say for sure if I'll get an offer. I haven't heard back yet, so I'm assuming it's a no, but they might just need more time to decide.
- Can you write a C++ class to represent a deck of 52 cards?
- Create a game where players draw 5 cards from this deck and compare the sum of their hand values. Identify and return the player with the highest hand value. J, Q, and K are worth 10.
- Could you elaborate on your thought process and reasoning behind your implementation of the second question?

I emailed the hiring manager a few times with my resume and portfolio. About two weeks later, I heard back and got scheduled for a phone screening. The call was super short, maybe 10 minutes, and since I was local, they invited me in for an in-person interview. I went in late October and had a few rounds of pretty easy questions. One of the managers was a bit condescending about my resume, but otherwise, the interviewers seemed impressed with my basic CS and engineering skills. I passed and sent a thank you note, then just waited. It took over two months before I followed up with an email, and then suddenly they wanted to discuss hiring, with the goal of me starting about three weeks later.
- Can you explain how to reverse a linked list?
- Describe how you would code a jet pack controller for a video game.
Gameplay Programmer
I started with an online test that wasn't timed, it was more to see how I approach problems. Then, two weeks later, I had a phone interview. The interviewer was 20 minutes late and didn't even have my online test results. They gave me a verbal test right then and there. The interviewer seemed uninterested, just saying 'no' to my solutions or moving on without discussion.
- Can you explain what "placement new" means in C++?
