The interview process is multi-step. First, you'll do a demo over the messaging platform from home. Then, you travel to Taipei for a lengthy training and more demos. After these steps, you may receive an offer. You then take a bus or train to your assigned school. It took me three demos to feel comfortable, and I think the first two, plus being frazzled, left a bad impression. While most staff were nice, some were biased. If you're not up to par, they'll leave you stranded and jobless in a foreign country, losing money on travel. I found another teaching job in Taiwan after this and stayed for over three years. It took me a week to feel comfortable in that position. I wish I had looked for a better option initially, but it was a lesson learned.

After submitting the application, which unusually asked for a full-body picture, I had a face-to-face interview via webcam. The interviewer, who seemed very experienced with HESS and had a great attitude, conducted an hour-long interview. It covered a wide range of topics, even ones I hadn't anticipated, and also focused on making sure I understood and would commit to the role's promises.

I found the English Teacher position online and applied through their site. After that, they reached out via email proposing a Skype interview. The Skype interview, which was with a Western English Teacher, went pretty well. They asked me questions about teaching and how I would handle working in a school. The interview itself was professional and chill. I got an offer after the interview and got to pick a city. Then I flew to Taiwan for a few days of training and orientation.

I had a video interview where they asked about why I wanted the job, if I was okay with traveling, and how I'd handle specific classroom scenarios. I also had to put together a short lesson to teach kids about Monkey, Elephant, Giraffe, and Lion, plus a Q&A part using "What is that? It is a _____". I passed that and got a congratulations letter saying I got the job, but then a few weeks later they told me they'd hired someone else.
