Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hermès.
Production Planning Intern
Standard HR chat, where past experience is mainly assessed. Big negative point: there doesn't seem to be a well-defined and structured career progression after the internship for potential interns.
- Walk me through your resume
Buyer
The interview process is pretty standard: first an HR chat, then two more with people from the operations side. The questions they ask are also very standard, and you can answer them easily if you've prepped for your interview, no real nasty surprises there. What I found disappointing, though, was the HR team's attitude. As a candidate (so a future employee for this or maybe another role), we make the effort to travel on short notice (sometimes HR calls the day before and hints they don't have much availability so we rearrange things), and after the interviews, it's just radio silence. In my case, I got a generic email saying 'despite the quality of your application...etc.' (over 3 months after the interviews), but when I asked for feedback, no response. HR is the first impression of a company, the one that's supposed to make us want to work there. How they handle not selecting a candidate needs work, and feedback is important for moving forward. P.S. I also got the feeling that having an unconventional profile or too many ambitions could be an issue. The hierarchy seems really important/overbearing in this company.
- Can you tell us about your background?
- What are your 5-year career goals?
Purchasing Assistant
I applied on the career site. I was contacted by phone for a 15-minute call where they asked if I was still interested, why Hermès, and then they offered me an HR interview. I had an HR meeting on Teams for about 30-45 minutes where I was asked a lot about the company, why purchasing, and my previous experiences. I was contacted again to come to the office in person for an afternoon. There were activities to discover the company as well as a 30-minute interview with the managers and an Excel test. During the interview with the managers, I was asked questions about purchasing and my experiences, not specifically about the company.
