I had an initial phone chat with an HR recruiter, who seemed really scripted. Then I did a Zoom interview with the two people I'd be working closely with. This chat felt much more laid-back and we had good chemistry, making me more interested in joining their team. They extended an offer, but it was pretty low ($18/hour). I tried to negotiate, explaining my reasoning based on cost of living and my value. Heritage, however, took my negotiation as a rejection and rescinded the offer, saying they were sorry I didn't accept. Even after I clarified I hadn't actually turned it down, they continued to argue, which was really off-putting. The whole situation left a bad impression, even though the department team was nice. It's wild how they handled it and seems like they don't value their employees.

It started really friendly with the recruiter, who set me up fast with the hiring manager. The hiring manager really drilled down into super specific coin history stuff, which was odd given it's a writing job. It was trivia that you could easily Google, not something you'd know offhand. Then they mentioned they're after someone published, which is fine, but not for the pay rate. If you're a published writer and an expert, don't take this job for $20/hr. They also requested a big research writing sample. A ton of work for a role that doesn't pay well. Plus, the hiring manager promised a response within a day of submitting the writing, and it's been over a week.

It was pretty straightforward. You apply online and then HR gets in touch via email or phone. They ask some initial questions over the phone. After that, there are two in-person interviews. The first one involves talking with HR, taking the Wonderlic test, and writing about a recent positive experience. You also do a numbers association test, which takes about 1-2 hours. The second interview is with the department manager, where they ask basic questions, nothing too challenging.

Applied on indeed and got a quick response. Had a phone screening the next week that was pretty relaxed. Then there were a lot of tests: a personality test, a cognitive test, a writing sample, and another application. The interview was a panel interview with the manager, VP, and President over Google Teams, even though we're in the same city. The interview was very loose and they didn't have many good questions for me; I felt like I was leading it, which was weird. The whole process took about 4 weeks. It seems like a lot for a job paying $22/hour.
