It was a good interview process overall, though it did stretch over 4 weeks. The point of contact was efficient, and the questions they asked felt spot-on for the Consultant role I applied for. The interviewer was friendly but definitely challenging. All in all, it was a solid interview experience.

Behavioral Case Presentation Other

The corporate interview process consists of two main parts: first, a Calipher personality test, which the executives trust highly for its reliability. Second, a one-on-one interview. Looking back, I'd advise candidates to take initiative upon entering, employ every element of a sales call, and finish with a closing statement to market themselves. This demonstration of your sales mindset and skills isn't explicitly mentioned or scored but seems to be the ultimate deciding factor. Keep your answers very brief. This is not a casual, get-to-know-you type of interview. Good luck with your job search!

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • The interview expects you to aggressively sell yourself using all elements of a typical sales call, rather than asking you questions as in a traditional interview setting.
  • Be very concise in your responses.
  • Showcase your sales mentality and technique.

I applied for the Full Stack Web Developer job in mid-July 2018. A recruiter from Herff Jones called me on July 27th about the role and my salary expectations, which I stated as 95K-100k. He confirmed this was the right range. I then had a technical phone screen with the hiring manager on August 2nd, followed by an in-person interview on August 10th. The technical questions were basic Java and general software engineering questions. I didn't hear back for a while, so I contacted the recruiter on August 15th for an update, but got no response. I assumed I wasn't being considered. However, on September 26th, the recruiter emailed asking if I was still looking for a job. I replied that I was, but then waited about a week with no word. I then emailed the hiring manager directly about the status of the interview from months ago. On October 3rd, the hiring manager called to offer me the job at 85K, which was lower than the salary range discussed in July. He avoided discussing the salary difference and instead highlighted the vacation policy (2 weeks after 1 year) and expected busy season hours (50+ hours/week). At this point, I had 10 years of full-stack experience. I declined the offer due to their questionable hiring practices, not just the compensation.

I reached out to Herff Jones for a job in their Sports - Ring Division. About a week later, they got in touch and asked if I wanted to interview. I got to pick my own day and time, which was nice. When I got there, a security guard asked why I was there and sent me to a window where I had to fill out a bunch of forms for about 20 minutes. Then, I went back to the window and was told to wait for the interviewer. She came out after about 10 minutes and took me to a meeting room. I had researched the division and company beforehand, and it helped. She asked me about my unusual resume and if I could handle a full-time job with set hours, since I'm used to a more flexible schedule. She was nice, professional, and seemed open to some flexibility. It seems like Herff Jones is changing with the times and new technology, unlike what I'd read elsewhere. I asked her about some of those things I read.
