The interview involved three main parts: first, an initial chat about your experience. second, a big task where you had to come up with and execute an idea. third, a final meeting to go over the task you completed. they kept me in the loop about what was next and everything ran smoothly. it wasn't really about 'tell me about a time when' questions, more like a conversation to see how your background fit the job and to learn more about what the company was trying to achieve.

A recruiter reached out after seeing my application for another role and liking my resume. It was a fast process. I had a Zoom interview with the two people I would report to. It was a really nice chat, and the interviewers were friendly and relaxed. They asked general questions about my background and specific questions about current journalism methods, such as SEO. Following that, I was given an edit test to complete over 4 days, which was a good amount of time. My recruiter kept me updated throughout and was super helpful. It was a good experience overall; I felt well-assessed without feeling like every little thing on my resume was being nitpicked.

The interview process was straightforward: interview, edit test, then an offer. My only issue was the staff's lack of communication regarding the process and timeline. Also, applying through the Hearst portal seems to be useless. I've worked for big Hearst publications and interviewed for many editorial roles over the years, but I've only ever gotten an interview or job by directly contacting an editor or someone there. It's a very clear path, just that communication is not their strong suit.
