A recruiter reached out and set up two interviews for me, which happened consecutively. First, I spoke with the director, and then separately with the hiring manager, both via Zoom. The interviews were mostly conversational. They discussed the company and its background, mentioning they were looking for a 'unicorn' employee, so I'm not entirely sure what they were specifically seeking. I was initially interested because they identified as a publishing company, but it turned out their business model focuses on providing reviews and booking doctor's appointments through their website, meaning they aren't actually publishers. The role seemed more aligned with a brand campaign manager position. Even though I have experience with many of the tools they mentioned, I wasn't given any assessment. This might be because my background is in publishing, and they don't operate in that industry. The recruiter was not very helpful afterward when I tried to get feedback; they completely ghosted me, which was unprofessional.

I applied online and a few days later a recruiter emailed to set up an interview. When the interview was supposed to happen, the recruiter didn't call, but instead sent an email asking to reschedule. I agreed to the new date with no reply. Again, no call on the day. I emailed again and then again, and finally had the interview. It was a great chat, the nicest phone interview I've had. Basic questions about my background to see if I'd fit. At the end, the recruiter said he'd suggest me for an in-person interview (he doesn't decide who gets one) and I should hear back the next day. It's been a couple of weeks and I still haven't heard anything. I've already taken another job so I don't need to follow up, but the whole thing felt disorganized and like I wasn't important. How do you expect to get good employees if you mess them around and don't reply? I understand the phone screening part, but it seems the recruiter has no say in whether you get an in-person interview, so what's the point?

Behavioral Other

This company's interview process was incredibly disrespectful and unprofessional, which I suspect might be due to applying for an intern role. They took over two months to even schedule a phone interview. When the scheduled time arrived, they didn't call. After I emailed them about missing the call, they admitted they forgot and asked to reschedule. We picked a new time, and they missed that one too. It's really surprising that a company struggles to attract talent when they treat well-qualified candidates so poorly.

I had a technical screening call, followed by a 4-hour morning session of round-robin interviews. The panel was thorough, but it wasn't super technical. They focused more on my conceptual understanding and personality rather than whiteboarding or live coding. Given my experience, the process felt comprehensive and aligned with the role.
