So I had a call with HR first, just asking basic bio stuff, about my work history and what I was looking for. Then, I had a technical interview with a Technical Director over the phone for about an hour. The questions weren't super hard, more about how I'd handle problems in specific situations. Didn't need the perfect answer, just needed to show I knew how to get there. After that, I went in person to interview with three different technical directors. This is where I had to actually write code on a whiteboard to solve the problems they gave me. After about two more hours of that, I got an offer from HR before I even got home.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • If presented with a table containing duplicate data, what steps would you take to retrieve only the rows that meet specific business criteria?
  • Describe your process for tackling a problem scenario when asked, focusing on how you would find a solution.
  • On a whiteboard, illustrate your approach to coding a solution for the problems we present.

Had a 30 minute call with HR, then two on-site interviews at Health Catalyst. The first on-site was with two Technical Directors, they talked about my SQL skills and if I could learn new things, we went over SQL stuff. The second on-site was with two VPs, about 15-30 minutes each, and they asked about my resume and general behavioral questions.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • How would you rate your SQL skills?
  • What are some specific SQL questions?
  • Can you tell me about your ability to learn new skills?

HR reached out first to chat about the job. Then, I got a t-SQL doc to look over before my first chat with a senior person. We talked about my background and the doc. After that, HR sent over a t-SQL developer test with 3-4 questions, where the time taken is a factor. I rushed the test, didn't TEST or review my answers properly before submitting. Realized my mistake right after. The questions weren't too tough, but I still messed up, even forgetting some best practices. Totally bombed it. Didn't get the job, naturally. Learn from my mistake though, it seems like a great role if you can get through the process. If you pass that, you get an in-person interview with whiteboarding on modeling skills and some behavioral questions. The whole process is pretty long and drawn out, which is why I found it difficult, not the questions themselves.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Can you explain joins and modeling concepts?
