Product Manager
I made it to the final round for this Product Manager role. This whole process felt pretty long with 8 distinct conversations, plus a substantial take-home assignment. Most of these chats (besides presenting the assignment) were quite brief, around 30 minutes. While I get not wanting to eat up too much candidate time, I felt like these were often a bit rushed and didn't allow for much depth. Honestly, I think closer to 45 minutes would be better to give yourself a decent chance to make a good impression in the limited time you have.
- Can you share an instance where you leveraged data to guide a product or feature choice?
Product Manager
So there were two phone screens first, one with the recruiter and then another with the hiring manager. After that, I had an onsite that was pretty long, like 5-6 hours. I had to get ready a presentation on my thoughts about the product and the metrics I'd track for app health.
- What do you like most about Headspace and how would you enhance the product?
- If you could add a new feature, what would it be and how would you track its success?
- Tell me about the metrics you'd use to gauge the overall health of the app.
Product Manager
The interview process began with a recruiter screen, followed by a phone screen, and then an onsite interview. Everyone I met was really nice, and the interview process itself was pretty well-organized, so I generally knew what to expect. My main concern was that the company seems to have some internal organizational challenges, reflected in the questions asked, which seemed to target current issues. For example, they asked about managing conflicting requests from different departments for engineering resources. Another concern was that the interviewers seemed inexperienced. While it felt more casual, it was evident they weren't entirely sure what they were assessing or how to guide the interview.
- What product would you suggest building for Headspace?
