Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at HDR.
Marketing
The interview process was very professional and not intimidating. The company clearly knows what they're looking for in marketing candidates. If you have the right background, the interviews are mostly about seeing if you're a personality fit.
- How do you manage when you have several deadlines all at once?
Marketing Assistant
The whole hiring adventure lasted about three weeks. It kicked off with an online application. A recruiter reached out pretty fast for an on-site interview with the hiring manager. I was expecting a one-on-one, but surprise! It was a panel with the marketing team I'd be working with. It was pretty quick, about 30 minutes. Next, I had to send in some writing samples. Then, I went for a second on-site interview, meeting more of the team and the hiring manager's boss. This one was longer, around 2 hours. The second part of this interview included a skills test for the marketing assistant job. The last step was a reference check, which took about two weeks. I never got any feedback after asking, which was a bummer. Starting out positive, but ending with no reply really soured me on the company.
- When you get different instructions from different managers, how do you deal with it, and how do you decide what to do first?
Marketing
I applied online and someone reached out a few weeks later. The first interview was with HR and the office's managing principal for about an hour. It was pretty standard. The next week, I had a panel interview with the same people plus the department manager and the marketing manager. They seemed to be hinting at the job's downsides, but I guess I didn't notice then. The last interview was more casual, with HR moderating a chat with three future colleagues.
- What's your reason for leaving your current role?
- Can you describe your approach to handling several deadlines simultaneously?
