Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at HDR.
Graduate Electrical Engineer
We had a Teams online interview first. They asked why I wanted this role and about my background, then some technical questions. The second interview was in person at their office, with a group of engineers. We discussed more technical topics and my background.
- Could you explain three-phase power?
- What do you know about switches?
- Can you describe power electronics?
Electrical Controls Engineer
HR will contact you to schedule an interview. After that, you'll have an interview with the PE manager. The manager will discuss what you can bring to their team, like control drawing in Autocad. They're being truthful, you'll be doing a lot of drawing in Autocad for the PE, which shouldn't scare you. However, you need to know the difference between power PE and controls PE. The manager might sound arrogant, so just relax and be yourself.
- What makes you want to join HDR?
- Regarding your PE, are you focusing on power or controls, and what's your reasoning?
Electrical Engineer Intern
First, there was this prerecorded part that was a bit unusual for me. Then, I had a video interview with about 6 or 7 managers, which felt pretty standard.
- Of your past internships, which did you like the best?
