First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Havertys.
Sales Consultant
Checked in and had to fill out a paper application even though I did it online. The store manager interviewed me and asked questions that made me uncomfortable. I felt like she was an accountant, not someone who'd worked on the sales floor, and she didn't sell me on herself or Havertys. She was cold, distant, and made me feel inadequate. She wasn't a people person. I asked about pay and benefits. For pay, they only said it's 5% commission and stocks are publicly traded. They told me if I don't hit their $45,000 monthly goal, I'd be let go. I left not wanting an offer, but the process helped me realize it wasn't the right fit for me. I have about 20 years of sales and management experience.
- Can you tell me about a time you had a problem with a manager and how you dealt with it?
Sales Consultant
I applied online and did a personality test. Then, the local store called me for an in-person interview, where they asked questions related to my online test answers. After that, I waited about two weeks for a background check, which took longer because I live abroad. Once the background check was clear, they offered me the job.
- Can you describe a time you had a conflict with a colleague and explain how you resolved it?
Sales Consultant
First I had a phone call, which was basically to set up an appointment. Then I had an in-store interview that was nice and casual. It felt professional, and they asked questions that focused on my skills, not just what was on my resume.
- Was I comfortable with commission pay?
