Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Havertys.
Sales Associate
I did an online assessment first, which I don't usually like. But Havertys made it straightforward. I got an email right away saying a manager would call, and they did within 24 hours. I'm 65 and didn't feel any age discrimination. The store manager was very upfront about his management style and how great the company is. He asked a lot of questions, more than just the ones listed. I felt he gave me a fair shot. He mentioned he was writing down my answers to pass along. The online test was easy. The interview felt like it was geared towards teamwork, which was good, but some questions were unexpected.
- Describe a situation where someone yelled at you and how you reacted.
- Can you share an experience of working with many people and your feelings about it?
- Tell me about a time you worked independently and how you felt about it.
Sales Associate
The interview process was about an hour and a half, and it went pretty smoothly. I first went to guest services and filled out an application. After I finished, I gave it back to the person at guest services. I was told to wait for the person before me, which took about 10 minutes. Then, the store manager called for me and we went into his office. He reviewed my application and asked me some questions about it, like why I left my last job and why I want to work here. He also asked where I see myself in five years and if I understood the job's duties and commitment. I was honest about my reasons, as my personal goal is to work in sales and build a successful career. Then we discussed scenarios related to my past work experiences. After that, I asked the interviewer about their experience at the company and why they enjoy working there, which is always a good move. The interviewer then shared details about the pay, hours, and training. I was also informed that if offered the position, I might have to travel out of state for a week of intensive training. The interview was straightforward; you just need to do your research, be confident, and comfortable. I should hear back about their decision in about two weeks.
- What makes you think you'll be successful at this company?
Sales Associate
After sending the application, I waited for a call to schedule an interview. There were two interviews, and then a week wait for the background and drug screen. After that, I got a call back with a job offer and to set my starting date. It wasn't a bad experience, just time-consuming.
- Can you tell me about your previous experiences?
