The interview process started with an HR call, followed by a hiring manager call, and concluded with a peer panel group interview. The process felt disorganized, and it seemed like they weren't very experienced with interviewing. I lost a lot of motivation to pursue this role after learning about the company's recent layoffs of 70% of their staff, a fact the hiring manager didn't address. Checking other reviews on GD would give you a better idea of the company.

I had a chat with my future manager, then a technical interview with a peer who's also a frontend dev, and after that, a bunch of behavioral interviews with people I might work with. The technical part was super hands-on, using the actual tools and doing tasks I'd be doing daily. We also talked through some of my code design choices with another frontend developer.

Behavioral Technical Coding

I applied through BuiltInNYC, which lists jobs for NY tech startups. First, I had a recruiter call to get acquainted and go over the interview process. Then, I spoke with a developer who had me detail past projects and asked questions about them. The last interview was a technical coding interview with several developers. It was pretty simple. I got an offer in December, but about four months later, the recruiter informed me that the company was cutting programs, including internships, so the offer was rescinded.

Technical Presentation Behavioral

The interview process started off pretty standard with a phone screen and a call with the manager, followed by a technical interview. The last part was really rough though. I had to give a 90-minute presentation covering three case studies to the entire team. Each case study got 15 minutes for presenting and then another 15 minutes for Q&A. However, the Q&A part didn't really stick to the schedule, as team members would interrupt with questions randomly during my presentations. It threw me off because I had trouble getting back on track. I didn't get the job in the end; they hired a senior engineer instead, saying they didn't have anyone to train me at the moment. Honestly, that felt really unprofessional, especially after I put so much time into this huge presentation, even taking time off my old job for it. If a company can't hire for a specific role, they shouldn't make candidates go through so many difficult steps. I don't even think this job is competitive enough to warrant such a demanding process. The people I met from the team were nice, but the overall hiring experience was pretty bad.
