I showed them my writing sample, and honestly, there weren't that many other questions. They did need to confirm my location and which libraries and archives I could get to. It felt like a pretty straightforward and friendly process, mostly to check if I could actually do the research needed and to show me their preferred way of doing things.

Really awful experience: I had an initial call with HR where I had to reveal my current salary. Then, I had two calls with the IT manager and CTO, and got great feedback. After that, there was an in-person interview with the Head of IT UK and another call with the Head of IT EMEA. I only got good feedback (and I gave good feedback too). During my annual leave, HR sent emails asking for references and my salary expectations. I provided the references and asked for a 10% increase from my current salary. HR replied saying they couldn't wait for me to return from holidays, but my salary expectations were out of sync with their budget. I asked about the budget, but got no response. Later, I saw the job ad posted again, but this time the salary range was half of what I currently earn. Why did we spend over a month and go through 4 interviews?

I had two in-person interviews. The first one felt like a nice chat with two senior people from the Artist Liaison department. The Director was really nice, helpful, and pleasant. It was a very professional conversation. The second interview was with HR and the Assistant Director, and it wasn't as good. It felt like an interrogation. They said they'd get back to me after the interview, but they never did. I put in time for two in-person interviews at a respected gallery, and I expected some sort of response, even if it wasn't what I wanted to hear.
