Behavioral Technical Presentation

I was initially contacted in February about a Senior Solutions Engineer position. After an initial call, I was told that role was filled internally. Then, I was considered for a different SE role. In March, I spoke with the hiring manager for the new role, and I made it clear I had no prior experience with HashiCorp technologies, but he said it wouldn't be an issue. I then went through a technical interview, which was brief and unengaging, and a behavioral interview using the STAR method. The final step involved building a technical demo with HashiCorp tools and presenting it with slides. I reiterated my lack of experience with their tech stack to both the hiring manager and the technical interviewer, and again, was told it wouldn't be a problem. However, the final round focused heavily on in-depth questions about HashiCorp products, which felt disingenuous since prior expertise was expected. This expectation should have been communicated upfront, as it's unreasonable to expect candidates to spend significant time learning and demoing proprietary tools without clear expectations. When I mentioned I had an offer deadline approaching, I was asked to speak with a senior leader. This conversation was unprofessional and dismissive, questioning why I was even considering them if I had another opportunity. It felt like a formality while they interviewed other candidates. After a final follow-up, I received an impersonal rejection email. The whole process was disrespectful of my time and effort.

  • Spend hours and hours building a demo using HashiCorp technologies and create a slide deck on it only to get grilled on it from a technical perspective after you've made it clear you don't have experience with their technologies.

Behavioral Technical

This role is for Singapore based specifically. The hiring manager shown zero respect throughout the interview: * Often on the move, and saying hi to everyone like walking down the hall of fame. * At one point, he threw a question asking me to recall the story of a challenging deal, at the same time, he walked out of the camera to "grab a coffee" but I shall continue talking. * The questions were random and appear to be improvised during his "busy morning" rather than a "prepared" interview. p.s. the recruiter reached out 2 mths ago then went radio-silence before coming back again - also completely random.

So the process is: first a recruiter call, then you meet the hiring manager, followed by a technical interview, and finally a technical presentation. For the presentation, you get to choose one use case from Terraform, Vault, or Consul to demo. It's key to highlight the business outcomes.
