First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Harbor Compliance.
Account Executive
I had a screening call with HR, then a second call with the hiring manager. After that, I did a mock presentation with a team of three people. The final stage involved a presentation and a mock demonstration with a live Q&A session. The people I interacted with were fair and reasonable, not overly demanding.
- Can you share an instance where you encountered adversity?
Product Manager
The entire process spanned a month. It started with a recruiter chat, then a skills evaluation, and a meeting with the hiring manager. The last step was a two-hour topgrading interview with a group of people, where they went deep into all your past jobs since high school, asking about what you actually did and how you could have done better. After the final interview, within a week, they did reference checks and then extended an offer.
- What is a weakness your previous manager would point out about you?
Software Test Engineer
I applied for this job online last month and the hiring manager reached out via email last week to have me formally apply through their system. A recruiter then contacted me for a phone interview. During the interview, the recruiter seemed knowledgeable about the role and mentioned the company is moving from CakePHP to Laravel, which I have experience with, though I didn't feel it was super relevant. I was still excited but then discussed salary expectations. My expected 90k was deemed a bit high but doable for a mid-senior role. I thought this was surprising since I think it's reasonable. It's frustrating when companies lowball skilled people, especially those with families. Even though they said they'd follow up by a certain date, they didn't. I reached out and got a generic rejection email immediately, which was disappointing due to the lack of communication. I'd tell others to be careful with this company because of their compensation and overall practices. It felt like there was a lot of technical debt, so I'd advise people to avoid it.
- Can you tell me about your responsibilities at your current job and the size of your company?
Compliance Analyst
If you get selected, you'll have 2 interviews. First, a phone screening with basic questions about the company, your background, and salary. Then, you'll have a more formal interview with two hiring managers who have different personalities. They'll talk about Harbor Compliance's values, mission, and history, and then go into more detail about the role. They'll ask you about 5-7 questions from their computers. Be prepared, it's a lot of work here and no two days are the same, so if you don't like to work hard, this probably isn't the place for you. They're looking for long-term, hard-working employees and only hire about 1-2% of applicants. At the end, you can ask questions. Oh, and a heads-up, if they talk about 'company values' at the very end, it means you didn't get the job.
- What characteristic do you wish you didn't possess?
- How do you manage your workload and prioritize tasks?
- What kind of work atmosphere do you prefer?
