Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hallmark.
Sales Lead
I applied online and then had a group interview. The District Manager interviewed us, which I'm not sure if that's typical for group interviews. After about 30 minutes, we went one-on-one for more personal questions.
- Do you have a fondness for ornaments or a family tradition associated with them?
- What's your motivation for wanting to work at Hallmark?
Sales Representative
I was a sub rep for a Principal, so when they retired I took over the rep group. The Sales Manager wanted to come out and do a field visit with me and a handful of accounts. It went very well and he was very pleased with the job I had been doing and wished me luck with taking over the territory.
- Can you tell me how often you visit your accounts and the service you provide them?
Sales Assistant
I first dropped off my CV at the store without knowing if they were hiring, but hoping for an interview. About a month later, the store manager called me for an interview the following Thursday. I dressed professionally in black trousers, a blouse, a black blazer, and boots. The manager was friendly and polite. I had to complete a basic math test. She also asked me typical retail interview questions and wanted to learn more about me. It was a good experience. A week later, I was invited for a second interview, which was less formal and involved reviewing a few points. I believe I didn't get the job because of my lack of experience, even though I was one of two candidates.
- Do you have any upcoming holidays planned?
- Describe how you would handle an upset customer.
- What does excellent customer service mean to you?
