& Process

I interviewed in March 2024. First, I had an interview with the hiring team, which included the department head and two managers. They also asked me to give a presentation. It went well, and we discussed technical and situational questions. The next day, I had another interview, this time with the HR recruiter. About two weeks later, I received an offer.

First, there's an assessment, and then there's a HireVue. For the HireVue, they ask why your background and experience make you a good fit and what your biggest challenge is. You can answer in English, Mandarin, or Cantonese; there's a language requirement you need to know about.

So first there was this HireVue digital interview thing, and I had two questions about my career goals and how I'm planning for them. For each question, I got 1 minute to think and then 2 minutes to record my answer. After that, there was a written part where I had to type out my answer to 'What is my favorite subject/course' in 5 minutes. Once I got through the digital interview, they invited me to a face-to-face interview at their office in Hong Kong. It was pretty chill, only about 30-45 mins and not too hard. But then, it took ages, like over a month, to get the offer, so I had to say no because I had other plans already.

First, I had an initial phone screening with a recruiter to set up a Microsoft Teams meeting. Then, I had a Teams meeting with three staff members. The call felt more like an interview for a freelance position than a full-time one because none of the interviewers introduced themselves, provided more details about the position, or even more information about the company and its culture. Honestly, it was one of the least professional interviews I've ever attended, with the interviewers' remarks sometimes sounding condescending. The interview lasted about 30 minutes, and the 'next steps' involved a short assessment of a current problem they are facing. A few hours later, I received a follow-up email with the 'assessment,' which seems to be a working file with some information changed. I don't mind doing an assessment, but I'm suspicious of how this information will be used. I'm not sure if my experience was isolated, but this was by far one of the least professional and bizarre interviews I've ever done, and the follow-up 'assessment' when moving on to the next round was another red flag. Finally, I saw reviews where others have reached the offer stage of the interview process, and it was far below the stated expectations.
