First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Habib Bank.
Development Manager
The process began with submitting my resume through the official HBL careers portal, though an internal referral could also expedite things. Next, an HR screening via a phone call (around 15-20 minutes) was conducted to confirm resume details, salary expectations, and availability; it was very basic and professional. In some cases, a technical assessment or test was given, covering programming logic, database queries, and system design basics, using HackerRank or a custom HBL platform. Then, a technical interview happened, either virtually or at HBL Plaza, Karachi, with 2-3 panel members like a team lead and senior architect. Questions focused on the software development lifecycle, technologies on the CV, real-world problem-solving, system design, DevOps/CI/CD, and financial application experience (which was a plus). Lastly, a managerial or department head interview focused on project experience, communication, leadership, and culture fit, potentially including strategic questions like improving legacy banking systems or working with cross-functional teams.
- How can we automate a manual financial process?
- How would you integrate a new system into HBL's core banking infrastructure?
- How would you approach migrating services to a CI/CD pipeline?
Administrative
The whole process was really smooth and fast, not too many hard questions. I had two interviews on their premises. First, I met with a panel of two HR recruiters. It was a very smooth and efficient process with only a few tough questions. The interviewers were professional and friendly, making it easy to talk. It was a positive and well-organized experience.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- Can you share an example of when you demonstrated excellent customer service skills?
Business Analyst
It was a 3 step process. Started with HR screening, then a chat with the Line manager, and ended with the HOD. It was quite easy, mostly asking about my past experiences, why I wanted to join, and my future academic and career goals.
- Can you give an example of a time you had to deal with a difficult stakeholder?
- Provide an instance where you had to manage a challenging stakeholder.
- Share an experience of dealing with a difficult stakeholder.
Test Automation Engineer
The interview was done over Microsoft Teams. I made sure to be dressed appropriately and groomed for the online meeting. Two Senior Test Automation Engineers were in the meeting to interview me.
- Could you please introduce yourself?
- Can you explain the Bug Lifecycle process?
- Could you describe the Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC) process?
