Gymshark's interview process is really smooth, with good communication and a friendly vibe. I went through 3 stages: first a virtual chat with the Talent Manager (Alex Ingham, who was great and kept me in the loop), then a virtual meeting with the Hiring Manager/Ops team, and finally an in-person meeting with the hiring manager. The technical interviews felt more like informal chats to get to know me personally. While having the right skills is important, they also make sure you're a good cultural fit. I met Lee, Adam, and Ben, all of whom were professional and nice. Overall, it was a really positive experience, and I wanted to share because they handled it so well. Getting the job was the best part!

Behavioral Technical

It was a two round interview process. The first round was a quick call, and the second interview was with two people. They didn't use a test case or technical example. The interactions were pretty pleasant and all done over zoom. They asked pretty standard behavioural questions, and technical questions specifically about streaming experience. I thought it was a bit short sighted at a lead level not to do a test and to focus heavily on prior experience rather than the ability to learn and pick up tools quickly. The entire interviewing team was female, which I've rarely experienced before.

I first applied for two different roles at the company. I got an email saying I didn't get one of them, but then I got sent online one-way interviews for both, which was a bit confusing. After that, I was invited to the main assessment centre. A few days later, I received a rejection email, but I think that was a mistake related to the other role. About three months after the assessment centre, I finally heard back that I wasn't successful, even though they said we'd get feedback within two weeks on the day. They also promised detailed feedback, but I got almost nothing, just vague comments like “you were good, apply again next time” and “I wasn’t the one who interviewed you.” On top of that, they only reimbursed part of my train ticket to Birmingham, and it was quite expensive, so I was still out of pocket by about £30. The company seemed really cool, but they definitely had some serious organizational problems.

The hiring process took about 6 weeks, and the communication was sparse and inconsistent. There wasn't much flexibility with scheduling interviews because they were on annual leave. I waited 3 weeks for a decision after being told I'd have a next stage interview, meet the team, and they'd arrange for me to visit their office. After 3 weeks, I was rejected for being "overqualified", even though all the information discussed was on my CV and shouldn't have been new. If I was overqualified, they shouldn't have considered me initially. I couldn't get any more feedback.
