First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Gupta Media.
Software Engineer
I spoke with the People Ops manager first, mostly about my resume and some background stuff. Then, I had a technical interview with the Engineering team. After that, there was a coding challenge where I had to explain my work. The last round was a chat with the CEO and HR, which was pretty relaxed. The CEO was really articulate and asked about my career history and some other interesting things.
- Do you enjoy coding?
- Do you consider yourself intelligent?
Media Coordinator
The HR person was really nice and helpful, keeping me in the loop the whole time. Then, I had a panel interview with two team members where we did a case study and some math problems, which was a bit of a surprise. It was still a good talk about business and marketing strategy. After that, there was an Excel test with another staffer, which was pretty chill. The last part was with the CEO and Head of People. The CEO was late, asked weird questions like my SAT score and GPA, and if I was smart or if anyone cared about my career. He seemed uninterested, cut it short, and left. The Head of People was nice though, which was good. I felt unheard and unsure about my chances. The company seems to have smart people and cool clients, but the end of the interview was odd.
- What was your SAT score?
- Who is invested in your career?
- Can you solve these brain teasers about plants, proportions of people and a ball and a bat?
Creative Storyteller
I went through 3 rounds of interviews. The final round had me talking with several team members. For the most part, everyone was nice and easy to talk with, except for the CEO/founder. The CEO came off as really aggressive and arrogant. I get that successful CEOs can be intense, but this guy's ego was way out of line. After we talked and he looked at my background, education, and resume, he straight up told me he didn't think I could handle his smaller clients. This was surprising because I was coming from a bigger agency where I handled much larger clients and bigger budgets. They were interviewing me to be the first person in this new creative role. He then asked me to do a trial project for two of his agency's clients to show I could handle smaller accounts. His reaction and request felt more like he was trying to boost his own ego or get some free work, rather than genuinely assessing my skills for the job. I'd be cautious about the CEO and the overall work environment.
- The CEO asked me to do a project that seemed out of place for the role and my interview level.
Motion Designer
The interview process was pretty average. We discussed fundamental design topics. It became clear that they were more focused on business objectives than on design itself, which was disappointing given the role was advertised as a motion designer position. The interviewers seemed to think my work wasn't corporate enough, preferring a more 'boring corporate text on pictures' style. They valued winning over clients more than the functional benefits of design and creativity. Their approach to design and animation felt uninspiring and outdated. Beyond being superficially pleasant, they weren't very helpful during the follow-up. I noticed the same job repeatedly posted, which makes me question if they were actually hiring. It might have been a tactic to keep former employees engaged.
- What motivates you as a motion designer?
