First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Guess?.
Assistant Manager
The interview process was pretty straightforward, especially if you're already part of the team. I moved up from a sales associate role, which was even simpler. For the Assistant Manager position, I had three interviews: first with the District Manager, then the Area Brand Manager, and finally the Loss Prevention Manager. My district manager was super helpful and basically prepped me for the interview with the ABM. The ABM called me to ask some basic questions about what I thought the CEM role involved, my strengths and weaknesses, and my goals for the store. She was really friendly, making it feel like a casual chat. The interview with the Loss Prevention manager was also a breeze. If you're an internal candidate, they'll likely ask about your past experiences with Loss Prevention and your understanding of shrink. For external hires, I'm guessing it'll be standard questions about preventing theft, like "how would you handle internal/external theft?" and "what causes it?" Honestly, there's not much to worry about, just stay calm and you'll do fine. GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY INTERVIEWING!
- My District Manager asked me questions and wanted me to go into more detail with my answers.
- I was asked what I believe the CEM (manager) role intakes.
- I was asked what my strengths and weaknesses were.
Assistant Manager
First I met with the Store Manager. It was a really chill chat, mostly about personal stuff and less about the company. After a background check, I got set up to talk with the District Manager. They asked me about my current job, what the company expects, how I motivate my team, how we celebrate wins, and about my weaknesses. They also gave me the lowdown on the position, a quick company overview, and what their future plans are.
- Can you share an instance where you had to address an associate's performance? Was the outcome as you anticipated, and what were the results?
- Describe your current role.
- What does this company expect from someone in this position?
Assistant Manager
I saw an opening for Guess in the mall online and sent my resume. A few days later, I got a call to schedule an interview. I met the Co-Manager in the mall. She had me fill out an application and agree to a background check. She asked basic questions like what I knew about Guess, to tell her about myself, about a time I handled something, and how I would handle things. Then she asked if I had questions. After I asked my questions, she explained she was the co-manager and the store manager was out. She said she'd talk to the store manager and if they wanted to move forward, I'd have a second interview. She also told me about the management levels: assistant managers, a co-manager, and a store manager. The store was quiet and neat. The interviewer wore a mini skirt, knee boots, and a lace shirt. I wore a black suit and white shirt and I might have been dressed wrong since I haven't heard back.
