First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Gucci.
Visual Merchandiser
initial introductory chat: questions about your studies, any previous work experience, personal interests, and how these or some work/study experiences led you to be interested in this field; questions about the fashion house, its shows, its philosophy, and its competition with other fashion houses.
- Which brand do you think is a competitor to Gucci?
Visual Merchandiser
The recruiter set up a FaceTime interview, but then rescheduled. The second time we connected, the recruiter wasn't prepared, didn't have my resume, and seemed distracted. The interview lasted about an hour. After the interview, I learned that Gucci doesn't hire externally for Visual Merchandising roles, which was frustrating since I had to take risks and lie to attend. It felt like I was just fulfilling a demographic quota, despite my 10+ years of experience with high-end goods. It's a shame they limit their talent pool by only hiring internally.
- What is your motivation for wanting to work for Gucci?
Marketing Analyst
The initial chat was straightforward, and it became clear the hiring manager wasn't particularly skilled in the subject matter. The salary they offered was frankly ridiculous. I was already earning a low wage for my qualifications and experience, and they proposed only a 15% increase, which they calculated on the spot. The offer was for XX.5k, meaning they didn't even round up to the nearest thousand. So, they lowballed me, taking advantage of my already modest salary. I found this approach unfair and not merit-based. I doubt Gucci salaries are as low as they offered. It was also amusing they mentioned a 50% discount on Gucci clothing as a benefit, given that with such a salary, I wouldn't be able to afford it anyway.
