Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Guardian Life.
Financial Representative
Before the actual meeting, I had to come in a bit early to complete a 'survey.' This survey was actually a chance to answer a few interview-style questions on paper, giving me time to think through my responses first. The whole interview process was pretty easy, mainly because the Managing Director and her assistant were really great people. Plus, the questions that needed the most thought were given beforehand on the 'survey' before meeting anyone. I also did a good amount of research on the firm I was applying to, and on Guardian, naturally.
- What are your priorities in a job, on a scale of 1-10?
- What positive qualities do your friends and coworkers admire in you?
- What areas for improvement would your friends and coworkers point out?
Financial Representative
The interview process has 4 rounds. Round 1 is with HR and includes a personality test and a job description. If you pass, you'll meet the GA or office CEO in Round 2, which is an intense 3-hour session where you'll get a project interviewing and soliciting friends. Round 3 is to discuss the compensation package, your Round 2 project results, and receive a contract offer. The final Round 4 is a VIP interview with three current financial representatives who will grill you for about an hour. If they approve, they'll give the GA the go-ahead to hire you.
- What are your best and worst attributes?
Financial Representative
This process is pretty long! First, you have a 1-on-1 chat with the agency head (GA). After that, there are two tests: one for personality and another for skills. Then, you meet with a sales manager for a second interview. Following that, you'll complete a background check and a handwriting analysis. The GA and Sales Manager will have a third interview with you to discuss your background check and compensation. In the fourth interview, they'll lay out the requirements for getting on contract. The fifth interview is where you sign the pre-contract agreement. You then go through a pre-contract phase where you work without pay. This can last a month or two, sometimes even three, before you officially go on contract and start getting paid. It sounds like a lot, but if you're good at sales and can handle not getting paid for a couple of months, it's totally worth it. This lengthy process just shows they're really serious about who they bring on and don't just give the job to anyone.
- Can you share an instance where you faced a significant challenge and explain how you overcame it?
