I was reached out to by a recruiter on LinkedIn, as the head of the department liked my profile there. After my first chat with the recruiter, they scheduled an on-site interview for me at their office. When I got there, I was left waiting for over an hour in the lobby because the recruiter who was supposed to meet me never showed up. The hiring manager eventually came looking for me, surprised about the recruiter not being there. I talked with the hiring manager for 20 mins, and she asked me questions from a paper. Then, I met with another senior team member. The conversation went well, and the senior member mentioned it would take about 2 weeks to get a decision. The recruiter called me the next day to say I got the job, and we agreed on the salary over the phone. In the following days, I exchanged emails with the recruiter to complete forms, only to discover they were having trouble getting approvals from the finance department for the position. I was ignored for a month, and my calls and emails to the recruiter went unanswered. After I contacted the senior team member who interviewed me, the recruiter finally responded, explaining they never got budget approval for the role and had cancelled the whole process. At that point, I had paused my job search and had to start over.

So I was first contacted by the recruiter back in December. I told her I was overqualified, but she really pushed for a call with the hiring manager, which I did. It was a 30-min call, mostly the interviewer talking. A month passed, and then they mentioned in-person interviews for late January. For two weeks, I got no response to my emails. Then the hiring manager told me I didn't make it to the in-person interviews because I was overqualified. The next week, the recruiter called saying the hiring manager was really impressed and still wanted to meet me. I had the interview in late February, over two months after first contact, and it seemed to go well. They said I'd hear about next steps in a few days. Two weeks later, I messaged them and still haven't heard back. It's mid-April now.

I had a 20-minute phone interview with a recruiter about a different job I applied for. Then, weeks later, I spoke with an indirect supervisor and a Client Director. A few more weeks went by, and I had a writing test, and then finally got an offer. The whole thing took 8 weeks. It turns out that everything there takes a really long time to get through the agency and the client and back again. Their schedules are so packed they're triple-booked every hour, so setting up interviews with people who they thought were necessary took a while. I found out later the writing test was just a way to keep me interested while we waited for schedules to open up.

I went to the MSU MSMR Internship career fair and asked about full-time openings. About two weeks later, HR contacted me for an on-site interview. I interviewed with the direct manager and some team members. The direct manager wasn't really prepared, she asked me about my resume and went over my background during the interview. The interview with her wrapped up in about 20 minutes because the other team members had a second round interview scheduled. The team members took some notes on my resume. They mostly asked questions about my past experiences. They also gave me 5 minutes to explain the insights from their regular report.
