Intern
OLX Brasil's hiring process was clear and upfront. First, they screened my resume for fit with the role and company culture. Then, I did online tests on behavior and tech fundamentals. After that, I had an interview with the People team about my background, motivations, and alignment with OLX's values. Next, I interviewed with managers and tech leads to assess my reasoning, software engineering knowledge, and learning potential, discussing past experiences. Some roles also have a practical case study, focusing on how you think rather than just the outcome. Finally, I got feedback, and if approved, moved to onboarding, where they introduce the culture, team dynamics, and development resources. The whole process was handled with clarity and respect, focusing on a candidate's potential.
- Could you tell us about yourself and your journey up to this point? Also, why did you choose technology/software engineering, and what attracted you to apply to OLX?
- What are your strongest points as a professional just starting your career?
Engineering Manager
The process was fast. I first went through HR and it was very positive! My skills were a 100% match for what the job needed. However, the technical interview was not positive! I say more in relation to the flow of the interview. The interviewer certainly had a lot of knowledge, but with an air of arrogance, judging me more than evaluating me. This became very clear in the first few minutes. My answers met the requirements, but I was judged much more than evaluated! I even heard that I was doing a good job (in my current job) as an Engineering Manager, but in a very 'by the book' way... (well... was I supposed to do it the wrong way? hahaha...) But it was a valuable experience! It wasn't this time, because I work in a very 'by the book' way.
- What would be your initial steps and actions when starting a new role at a new company with a completely new team?
Front End Developer
This was one of the strangest and most frustrating interview processes I've ever been through. I was scheduled for an interview, but the recruiter simply didn't show up. It took almost a week to reschedule because they weren't responding on any contact channels. On the day of the rescheduled interview, they were late and conducted a rushed interview, not even asking typical questions. The conversation didn't even last half an hour. Shortly after, I received a generic rejection feedback. Judging by the process, this company must be extremely disorganized.
- Tell me about your professional journey.
Software Engineer
I went through two stages, the HR one was super chill and then the technical one. The technical part was really uncomfortable, basically writing two algorithms with pseudocode and a system design. However, there wasn't time for me to think about the algorithms and test them, the interviewer was pressuring for an immediate answer, impatiently. I felt like he wanted to show off that he knew about the subject, which is obvious since it's his job. The complexity of the algorithms was also questioned. At least there was feedback, horrible and shallow but there was. This is a company I'll stay far away from next time and won't even waste my time.
- Could you sort an array?
- Can you draw a system design?
- Write two algorithms using pseudocode.
