The interview process went pretty well, there were 5 rounds in total, which feels like a lot for a non-senior position. It was a really specific role, and I had exactly the right background for it. The VP even said I was their top candidate, and senior folks were connecting with me on LinkedIn. I made it to the final round but wasn't selected in the end. I found out who got the job and checked their background – they didn't have any relevant experience for the role, but it turns out they went to the same program and university as the hiring manager. I'm not going to make any assumptions, that's up for interpretation.

The HR interview was really long and draining, going for almost an hour with tons of questions about fitting in, past jobs, and if I'm okay with coming into the office. I think I came across well, though. They rejected me before I even got to do the technical test, which is what really shows what someone can do. They said they picked someone who could start sooner, but since they have a bunch of jobs open, that explanation felt off. It was like the HR person was just deciding based on vibes instead of actual skills.

Had an HR interview first to see if I fit the company culture. Then, I got a fraud detection assignment to finish in 48 hours. After that, a technical interview where they talked about the assignment but felt the expectations for a 48-hour task were too high. I really focused on finishing the project within the time limit and making it good quality, even putting my personal life on hold for those two days. I liked the project, but the last interview felt a bit too intense and not very welcoming.

The whole thing was fast and gave me a good understanding. I got an invite for a first meeting the same day. Then, I had another meeting with people who would be my teammates. It turned out though, during that meeting, that the job wasn't really the right fit for me. I got a rejection email the week after the meeting.
