Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Grindr.
Software Engineer
The whole process was a really bad experience. The people they scheduled to interview me didn't show up, and someone else ended up doing it. The hiring manager basically interrogated me the entire time and didn't even try to sell the job. It felt like a one-way interview. After all that, they just went silent after I went through a really long interview process. I heard about the recent layoffs, so I guess I dodged a major problem. It's a bummer for the people who worked there though.
- What were some typical behavioral questions asked?
- What coding challenges were presented?
Software Engineer
I had a 1.5 hour session with the team I'd be joining, and then a bunch of 30 minute one-on-one chats with other staff. The coding exercise was way too short, only 25 minutes when it should have been way longer. The interviewers were late, so I had to repeat myself a lot. It was weird too, the room had glass walls and the next people were just waiting outside, staring, for like 10 minutes, which made the current interviewer rush me.
- How would you find the median of two sorted arrays without actually merging them?
Software Engineer
The interview process was really fun and engaging. The team made sure to understand what I was looking for and gave a great picture of what's needed at Grindr. It was also great to hear about the company's transformation into a mature public company. The team had a clear process and responded quickly to questions. There was very little haggling about salary or other things.
- Can you describe your greatest accomplishment and the reasons for your pride in it?
