I applied online and got a call for an initial screen where they asked about my past experience. It turned out my background fit a different role better. Neither hiring manager decided to move me forward for either position, but the recruiter was really nice and kept me fully updated.

So this was a pretty standard process, coding stuff and behavioral questions, but no system design or DS+A. The first round was a coding challenge where I had to create my own optional type. Round two focused on iOS specific knowledge, like how to display things using MVVM. The final round was a behavioral interview with the VP of engineering. Honestly, I had no idea what they were looking for, and the recruiter wouldn't give me any hints, so it felt like I was totally in the dark. I got a verbal offer for a lower level position (mid-level instead of staff), but then they took it back.

Behavioral Coding

The whole process was a really bad experience. The people they scheduled to interview me didn't show up, and someone else ended up doing it. The hiring manager basically interrogated me the entire time and didn't even try to sell the job. It felt like a one-way interview. After all that, they just went silent after I went through a really long interview process. I heard about the recent layoffs, so I guess I dodged a major problem. It's a bummer for the people who worked there though.

Behavioral

The interview was conversational, with a coordinator asking questions meant for someone who couldn't attend. Feedback was relayed in writing instead of direct conversation, which felt disorganized and impersonal. They struggled to articulate concrete plans for improving the company's image or branding, only vaguely mentioning changes. They repeatedly brought up 'Grindr for Equality' as a positive company image but couldn't explain how the company was actively changing, relying on the fact of new ownership and stating they are 'Good.' They also mentioned that most employees have been there for 1-2 years, with only about 5 long-term staff, suggesting a developing culture rather than an established one.
