I applied online and HR got back to me super fast, like in four hours. They had me do an online assessment. I thought it'd be technical, but I'd researched it and found out it was actually an IQ test, only 20 minutes long. I finished it, got most answers right (like 95%), but then got an email saying other candidates were a better fit. It felt pretty bad, why have me do the test if I wasn't even qualified? The test itself was 38 questions in 20 mins, I only remembered a few. On the plus side, it got my brain working. It kinda makes sense for their company culture though, super casual, Tees and Jeans, but for someone who's technically skilled and wants to innovate, it's a bit of a weird first step.

The interview process was three rounds. The first two interviewers were good but the last interview with the CEO was a bad experience. In the first round, the interviewer was personable. We chatted about my experience and the role requirements. I was shown code and asked to answer basic questions about it. The second round was similar to the first round. I was asked a few SQL questions and a few questions about my background. It was a longer format which allowed me to ask about the company. The third round was a one on one call with the CEO. He joined the call a bit late, was unprepared, had not reviewed my resume and didn't really know who I was or anything about my experience. He also was not able to find the notes from other interviewers. He seemed distracted and disinterested throughout the call, which didn't make a good impression. I was asked a basic data structures question which I answered correctly. The rest of the call was neutral and he described his preferences in candidates.

I had a recruiter call over the phone, she was great and very nice. Made me feel at ease. She asked basic experience questions and told me a little about the company. Then I had a second interview that was a teams video meeting with the person that would be over me if hired. Very nice and professional. Friendly and also made me feel at ease.
