Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Grant Thornton.
Management Trainee
The interview was straightforward and lasted about 10 minutes. They mainly assessed my fundamental understanding of accounting principles and whether I was proficient with Microsoft Office Excel.
- Can you explain what a bank reconciliation statement is?
- How would you describe your proficiency with Microsoft Office Excel?
Manager
A former manager reached out about a remote consulting role, which would let me move from the Bay Area to the Southeast in about a year without needing a new job. The interview process was standard and led to an offer. They offered a 165k base salary, which I knew was below their typical range. I tried to negotiate for more, citing my current cost of living, but they stated they would only offer 165k because I was planning to move to the Southeast. My move was uncertain at the time, and I only brought it up due to my prior relationship with the manager. I felt my compensation should be based on my current situation, given the uncertainties, with the possibility of adjustment later, but we didn't agree on this.
- Is travel something you are amenable to?
Creative Manager
Had a good first interview, which was easy since I was overqualified. They were really slow to set up the second round, but I figured it was due to summer holidays. Eventually, I got a big brief to prepare and present, with the meeting date to be confirmed. I worked hard on the brief, creating a strategy and visuals. When I followed up about the meeting time today, they told me they'd already made someone else an offer. They never let me know to stop working on the brief, which was a lot of work. They totally wasted my time. Really shoddy experience. Avoid.
- Develop a marketing campaign strategy and accompanying visuals.
