Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Granite Telecommunications.
Sales Representative
The interview process was very streamlined and communication was great. The recruiter seemed very knowledgeable about the company because they've been there a long time. The managers who interviewed me asked thorough questions.
- Can you describe your work ethic in sales?
- How competitive would you say you are?
Sales Representative
It was a two man interview, felt like I was being interrogated by the local police. The first manager was nice, relatable, and asked good questions; the only question that was disconcerning from the first Manager was "Do you think you will fit into the culture?". I thought that was very odd. The second manager, was not so nice. He was pompous, pretentious, as well as hostile during the interview. He made me question why I wouldn't want to find a job during the pandemic and also asked if I had any regrets in life. It was an extremely unprofessional interview. I felt like the first manager was playing the good cop and the second manager was playing the bad cop. The interview was more of "Why did you do x y and z?" rather than "Why would you be a good candidate for us?" I felt like he was trying to pry into my past decisions rather than qualify me as a candidate for the position. When I walked into the office, it felt like I walked into a bad movie set depicting office life in the late 1980s or early 1990s. Very outdated, golf memorabilia and accessories scattered throughout the sales floor. Wouldn't recommend.
- Why are you a good candidate for this role?
- Why didn't you search for a career during a global pandemic?
- Do you think you'd "Fit in"?
Sales
I got referred by a staffing agency that sent my resume to Granite. Within a week, I got an interview with them. Before meeting the hiring manager, I had to complete a 20-30 minute assessment test. However, I never got to interview for the role I applied for. The hiring manager explained that the position my agency applied for was already filled. They wanted me to interview for a different, lower-level role. I think I didn't pass the assessment test because they didn't proceed with the interview. They should have informed me about failing the test and their lack of interest.
