Four months of screening, 1:1, team interview, stakeholder round. I had to initiate follow-up at each stage to confirm I was still in the running. This process felt more like an endurance test than a way to screen for the best candidates, screening more for need, which isn't bad for the person who gets the job, but devastating for those who wasted their effort. The length wasn't the main challenge, but a comment from the stakeholder round stuck with me: 'We wouldn't change anything about what we do.' If that's true, the real question is not if I'm the right candidate, but if the role addresses a real problem or just fills a spot. I was ready to build, but you can't build where there's nothing to fix. The process had potential: a good team, interesting talks, a role with scope on paper. But the experience of moving through it felt like auditioning for a show that wasn't sure it wanted to happen. The delays between stages, the silence, and the burden of follow-up falling on me as the candidate sent a message. I felt like I had to prove my worth to people who hadn't proven the opportunity was worth my time. This is a dynamic I won't normalize, and I suggest you examine it. Top candidates are often interviewing elsewhere, and a slow, unstructured process won't keep them. I wish the team well, but you deserve to know how it felt from my side.

It was a multistage interview that the recruitment team handled really well. Working with Sam was great and really shaped my view of Grafana's culture. For this Product Manager role, I first spoke with the recruiter (Sam), then my hiring manager. Next, there was a group interview with the Engineering Manager I'd be working with most closely and another Product Manager. After that, I had a 3-hour take-home exercise, which was then reviewed with a Product Manager and someone from the UX team. The final interview was with the VP of Product. Even though it was a pretty long process, it was finished quickly, and I appreciated getting to meet so many different people to better understand the company and the role.
