First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Grab.
Data Scientist
Had an online interview with the hiring manager. They asked me about pricing and optimization problems. There was a case study related to the same area. They also asked about regression and classification models, which weren't too hard. Lastly, they asked coding questions that were on the online test.
- Were the coding questions from the online coding test asked?
- Can you tell me about the pricing questions?
- What about optimization questions?
Data Scientist
I interviewed with two different teams. First, I had a Codility test and then three rounds of in-person interviews. The interviews usually involved questions about my previous projects, machine learning concepts, and a case study where I had to propose a data science solution for a Grab problem. Things seemed to be going well, and they were considering an offer, but then they changed their mind. I was then referred to another team and had to go through a whole new interview process. This second team shifted their strategy mid-way and decided they needed someone with more experience (over 5 years). The whole process took a long time, and it felt like neither the hiring team nor the recruiter respected my time. Getting updates from the recruiter was difficult, requiring constant follow-ups. The hiring team's indecisiveness, like giving a green light for an offer and then backing out, made the experience quite unpleasant. It was a bad interview experience overall, and I wouldn't advise others to interview with them.
- Can you discuss ML/DS questions related to your past project experience?
- What are your thoughts on case studies that focus on applying DS solutions?
- Can you solve coding questions (LC medium)?
Data Scientist
So the interview process for my data scientist role was pretty chill. It started with a phone interview with HR where I had to answer some general questions about my work area, when I'm available, and if I'd relocate. After that, I went through two rounds of technical interviews with Grab's data science team. The last interview was a check on my cultural fit, which I did with the senior manager at the time.
- Can you explain the fundamentals of machine learning?
- Tell me more about advanced machine learning concepts.
- What are the key aspects of supervised learning methods?
