It lasted about an hour. The interviewers were professional but friendly. They asked basic questions and also about the programs for the job applied. The key is to read the Ministry's website to know about what they do.

The whole thing took around eight weeks until the final interview. About three weeks after applying online, I got an email for a phone interview. This was with a panel of 2 people, mostly asking background and non-technical stuff. The last interview was with 3 people at the Alberta Transportation office in the Twin Atria building. It was a 45-minute mix of technical and behavioral questions.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • Are you open to relocating?
  • What would you say is your biggest weakness?

It was a panel interview with three people: an HR Consultant and two department members, one of whom was the manager. The manager gave an overview of the department and the role and asked most of the questions. After a few questions, they seemed uninterested, and the interview felt dry and dull, leading to an uncomfortable experience. There was no attempt to rephrase questions or engage further, suggesting a decision might have already been made, possibly to fulfill an HRDC requirement. I understand the importance of a good fit as I'd be working with them too. Hopefully, future interviews in other departments will be more engaging.

  • What do you know about this department?
  • What is your experience in this area?
  • Describe how you would approach a specific situation.
