Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Gordon & Rees.
Associate Attorney
They asked about specifics from my resume and job duties. Covered 'tell me about yourself,' 'why leaving your other job,' and 'what are you looking for here that you didn't have at your last firm.' Also posed a hypothetical situation and asked how I would handle it.
- What litigation experience do you have?
- Can you tell me about your litigation experience?
- Describe your experience with litigation.
Senior Attorney
Submitted my resume and got a reply in a few days. They set up an interview for the following week. Got an offer pretty fast after that. The whole thing was quick and simple, and the communication from their office was great.
- Which types of litigation do you feel most skilled in?
Associate Attorney
It was a 3-round interview process. The first round was with associates, the second with a partner, and the final round with the founding partner. It wasn't a difficult process, but it was very casual, almost too casual. They asked a lot about my resume. One partner was too lax and made an inappropriate remark about my family member's death when I explained why I was leaving my previous firm. He didn't apologize and tried to brush it off. It was awkward and uncomfortable, and I let him know it was inappropriate. Apparently, this partner is known for this behavior. He also made inappropriate remarks to the other associate during the interview, and the associate even said, "I hope we haven't scared you off yet." The partner responded, "I believe we're well past that point," after making several inappropriate remarks to the associate and saying, "Thank God we work at an employment firm." This all happened while the founding partner was nearby. Ultimately, it wasn't a good fit due to the low pay, which was mediocre for an AM100 firm and seemed more suited for a recent law school graduate. I came prepared, but they were scrambling to find interviewers on the day of the interview. I was told I did exceptionally well, but a week later they said they wanted someone with more experience, which was confusing since it was discussed beforehand and deemed a non-issue. This indicates the firm's culture, as they rearranged the interview schedule to accommodate the partners. The office manager, Christine, was great and made the process seamless. The NY office is in a nice location.
- What's prompting your departure from your current firm, and what attracts you to Gordon Rees?
