First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Gordmans.
SAS Programmer
An interview is basically a two-way street where you and the candidate get to exchange ideas, and they'll be checking out your company just as much as you're checking them out. Figure out some standard questions that all interviewers hit the candidate with. This is useful because, one, it ensures that when it's time to evaluate the candidate, there's some common ground between the different interviewers. And two, you can tell how honest (or how rehearsed) the candidate is by observing how their answers shift between interviewers.
- Can you explain how dates are handled within SAS datasets?
Stock Associate
The interview was unorganized and unprofessional. She couldn't find my application so she had to print it out and ask me my info and write it down and she had to ask me all those personality questions that's on the online application! The interview was done 5ft away. She was sitting on one end of the office and I was sitting all the way on the other end. She was just reading interview questions off a piece of paper slowly like someone like a child who is just learning how to read instead of making eye contact while asking the questions. I was asked about 10 questions.
- Can you tell me about yourself?
- Could you describe a challenge you encountered and how you overcame it?
Store Manager
The interview process kicked off with a phone call where they asked about my career path and aspirations, as well as customer service experience relevant to the role. After that, I had an in-person interview at one of the store locations, which lasted about an hour. We revisited many of the same topics from the phone screen but went into more detail about the job's responsibilities. It felt pretty relaxed, and I felt good about moving forward. I was told I'd hear from corporate HR and the district manager for the final stage, but that communication never occurred.
- What's prompting your career change?
Teller
I started with an online application, got an email confirmation, and then a call from the hiring manager a week later to schedule my first interview, a 15-minute phone call. That same manager scheduled my next interview, a group interview at the Wells Fargo offices exactly one week later, at which time they would also do a background check. The group interview was straightforward, with questions posed to the whole group. Our direct supervisors conducted this interview and were friendly. At the end, they asked individual questions and let us ask questions too. We were informally told we got the job, with the formal process starting on our first day.
