City Launcher
I went through three rounds for this role. First, a quick chat with the recruiter, maybe 20-30 minutes. Then, I had two interviews with different line managers, each lasting about 30-45 minutes.
- Can you share an instance where you had to manage several competing priorities at once?
District Manager
I had an awful phone screen with an internal recruiter for a District Manager role where I would have been overseeing up to 14 facilities, which is too many for any manager to be effective. The recruiter was rushing me and didn't ask about me or my interest in the role or company; it felt like an interrogation. When I shared my salary expectations, she harshly stated that the role's pay was fixed and there was no room for negotiation. I realized the pay and the number of facilities to oversee weren't worth it, and I didn't want to be part of a culture of frantic urgency or be underpaid. I'd trust the low Glassdoor ratings as a warning; Gopuff may need more time to fix its fundamentals before it's a good career move for someone not desperate.
- Can you describe your typical day-to-day responsibilities?
Regional Manager
I can't even begin to say how bad the interview process was with GoPuff, from the first interview to the last of the four. I was excited about this company at first, but I lost interest with each interview. GoPuff showed me all their red flags, even though they probably didn't mean to. My concerns about the interviews are listed below. This is for a Regional Manager role, which should be handled professionally. Communication and follow-up were bad the whole way through. The interviewer was usually 5-25 minutes late to each interview and didn't seem to care about my time. The questions were often so broad and unclear that I'd ask for clarification, and they'd say 'I don't know what that question means, either.' It's great that they were asking me poorly worded questions without knowing what they meant. I could tell there was a lot of uncertainty about the company's direction, and it became clearer with each interview. I know the company is in hyper-growth, but they should have 'hyper' planning to go with it. They're a mess. The worst part was listening to the interviewer(s) constantly bash other departments, often using inappropriate names. After my fourth interview, I was told 'I look forward to working with you in the future.' That was the last I heard from GoPuff. I was completely ghosted on all my follow-up emails, even to the hiring people. That's when I saw on Glassdoor that this is common for them. I went from hesitant to relieved I didn't get the job. My advice is to stay far away from GoPuff until they get their act together, which I doubt will ever happen. Their whole interview process was unprofessional and a waste of my time. At least follow up with a candidate, no matter if you hire them or not. Be professional if you want to be respected.
- Tell me about a time you collaborated with another department to finish a project.
