A frustrating experience. Application rejected, then weeks later a recruiter brought me back and pushed me straight past any screening into an assessment without ever actually talking to me. After 2 weeks of chaotic back-and-forth to schedule, it ended in a plain peer-level video interview of normal difficulty. Then there were 6 weeks of complete silence and finally a rejection email that even had the wrong name on it.

When I went through the Google interview process, it was pretty intense, but also a really valuable learning experience. Here’s how it went for me: 1. Application & Initial Screening I started off by submitting my resume online. Not long after, I got an email from a recruiter who set up a brief phone screen. The recruiter didn’t just go over my background, but also asked me some behavioral questions to understand my fit for the company. This stage felt more like a warm-up, but I knew they were evaluating my communication skills and problem-solving mindset. 2. Technical Phone Interviews After that came two technical phone interviews. These were centered around data structures and algorithms. Each interviewer gave me coding problems to solve on an online collaborative platform like CoderPad, and they evaluated my problem-solving approach, coding efficiency, and clarity of thought. They also wanted me to explain my thought process as I coded, which I really had to pay attention to.
