First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Goodman Masson.

The whole process went pretty smoothly. It started with a phone call, then there were two Zoom meetings, and finally an in-person interview that took about an hour. They were good about letting me know what was happening at each step. It was a good experience overall, very professional, and they made sure I knew what to expect.
- What makes you want to join this company?

I got referred by someone I know and after a quick phone chat, they invited me to their London office. I had two meetings with different managers. They were both really friendly and just wanted a relaxed, honest chat about what I thought recruitment was and what the role involved. They also wanted to get to know me better and had clearly read my CV. It was pretty straightforward to answer, as long as you've done your homework on the company and the job. In the end, they went with someone else who had more academic experience, but it seemed like a really hard-working place that cared about their work and the recruitment field.
- What makes you want to pursue a career in recruitment?

My CV was submitted by a recruiter. Goodman Masson was interested and set up an initial phone interview. It happened a few days later. My potential manager called at the scheduled time. The chat was friendly and lasted about 30 minutes. He then invited me to their office for an in-person interview. This interview happened a few days after the phone call. It went on for about 2 hours and was actually more hostile, even though it was the same person. They fired questions at me rapidly, and some were quite intrusive, like asking about my savings account balance to gauge my past performance. It also became clear that the job was totally different from what I was told (and what my external recruiter was told) - it was for temporary placements, not permanent ones, and in a different market sector I wasn't familiar with. At the end, the interviewer said he wanted his colleague to meet me. After about a 10-minute wait, his colleague came and interviewed me. This guy talked at me for 35 minutes and only asked me three questions! Even with both my recruiter and me trying for two weeks, we never got an update on whether I got the job. Goodman Masson didn't even have the basic courtesy to send a quick email saying I didn't get it...and they still haven't.
- Considering your successful career since then, could you explain why you only obtained a 2:2 at university?
- What is the amount in your savings account?
