The interview process started with an HR call where we discussed salary expectations. HR mentioned their budget was exactly my current salary, which wasn't a great start. There were several weeks of delays between each subsequent interview stage. Following this, there was a design test that required an estimated 16-24 hours of unpaid work. After completing three interviews, I was ultimately offered a role that was a level lower than the one I applied for, with a significantly reduced salary package compared to my current earnings. I declined the offer, feeling it was a waste of time.

Applied online for the Lead Game Designer role. Was given an 8-hour online design test which had to be completed in a week. Got an email stating a studio restructuring was happening and to wait. Later received an email asking for an interview in 1.5 weeks. The interview was 1 hour long over Skype with 4 people: 1 HR, 2 producers, and 1 designer. The interview focused heavily on monetization and free-to-play questions and referenced my resume, not the design test. Finally, received a rejection email, with feedback indicating they had more experienced candidates. The process was long, taking about 7.5 weeks. Communication from HR was good, and the design test was challenging but well-made. However, a producer seemed uninterested during the interview, suggesting they might have already had a preferred candidate. Expect the whole process to take 2-3 months.

I applied online for the Game Developer role at Goodgame Studios back in July 2014, and the whole thing took about 3 weeks. After about two weeks from applying, they asked for my diploma and references, which I sent over. Four days after that, I got called in for an interview at their Hamburg office. It was a really friendly vibe, and they mostly asked about my past work and why I wanted the job. They also gave me the lowdown on the company and threw in some technical questions. After the interview, the HR Manager gave me a tour of the office, which I liked.
