Sales Development Manager
The VP of Sales Development reached out to me for the role, and I applied. The recruiter then contacted me for an initial chat. After that, I was scheduled to speak with the VP, but they changed it last minute to someone else the day before. I was prepared to discuss my leadership skills and how I'd empower my team, typical SDR management topics. The new interviewer was unprepared, almost 10 minutes late, and mentioned he was just back from a 3-week vacation and I was his first meeting. He only asked two questions about hiring and nothing about my management style, handling difficult situations, or the topics the recruiter said we'd cover. The interview ended up being only 20 minutes. A week later, I received an email stating they were proceeding with other candidates who were a better fit. I got no feedback on why I wasn't selected. When I requested feedback and mentioned my negative experience with the interviewer, I received a response after a week saying it would be 'looked into'. This was on October 6th.

- Describe a hiring situation that didn't work out and the lessons you took away from it.
Senior Sales Enablement Manager
I got set up with a recruiter named Austin King who was in the process of arranging interviews with hiring managers. However, I withdrew my application before we got too far into the process. Austin was great - he responded quickly, seemed invested in my success, and was easy to chat with. I enjoyed the experience.
- Can you describe your general experience?
- How do you approach your work?
Sales Development Manager
So the interview process was pretty straightforward, only a few steps. Started with a quick 10-minute call with the internal recruiter, just covering my background and why I wanted to join Gong. After that, I had a 30-minute Zoom with the CRO, which was a really open chat about my experience and what the team needs right now. Then, they invited me to the office for an in-person interview. The office visit was cool; they gave me directions, met me at the door, and the Inside Sales Manager showed me around a bit before we just chatted about sales stuff in a conference room. We ended up talking way longer than planned because it was such a good conversation. The last part involved two more Zoom calls. I talked to the CRO again about the job specifics, like managing, hiring, and our management styles. Then, a final call with the CEO, where he asked about my background, what drives me, and my ideas for succeeding. He said they'd get back to me soon. The next day, the recruiter mentioned a reference check, and two days later, the CRO called with the offer. The recruiter kept me in the loop the whole time, which was professional.
- How do you envision your initial 90 days in this position?
- What benefits do you believe our product offers?
- What are your aspirations for the future?
