I had a phone screening with the recruiter, then a virtual interview with two team leads. The interview was awkward; I felt friction from the very beginning. It was as if they had already made up their mind before the interview began. The rejection email was boilerplate without the name or job position fields filled out so that it read like "Dear [Candidate], thank you for applying to [Job Title]". Overall, an unprofessional and off-putting experience.

It all happened super fast, like I applied and they called me within days. First I chatted with a recruiter on the phone, then two weeks later I had a Zoom call with three copywriters. After that, they sent me another writing prompt, since I already did one for the application. The whole thing took about three weeks. Everyone was really nice and seemed genuine. I had some doubts from the job posting, you know, stuff like them calling themselves 'A-players' and saying 'if we like it, you get an interview' felt a bit arrogant and made me question if the work vibe was really what they said. But meeting the team kind of eased my worries, they were great. The main downside for me is the two-week trial period they don't mention in the job ad. If they 'hire' you, you have to do this trial, and they said it has a 50/50 chance of sticking. It's basically another interview stage, not really a job offer. I wouldn't have applied if I knew that. I feel like they're counting on new grads who aren't leaving a job. For anyone else, it's a big deal to give up your salary and benefits for something that might not work out half the time. That whole part left a bad taste in my mouth, it feels exploitative and doesn't match their company values. GH really needs to rethink that. The fact they weren't upfront about it in the job posting makes it a negative experience for me, but honestly, the people I met were good and so thoughtful about explaining it, so I'm calling it neutral overall.

The whole thing took about a month from when I applied until the initial phone call. I came into the office for an interview and a writing exercise. It was pretty laid-back and down-to-earth, with the test being more important than the interview itself. They wanted to see what I could come up with writing-wise on the spot. While skills mattered, they seemed to value enthusiasm just as much. After the test, I spent a few days working with the team, reviewing marketing emails and creating new ones.
