First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Golden Frog.
Product Manager
I had a phone screen with HR, then an in-person with the President, CTO, and another PM. The next step was another in-person with other people in the company like software developers. They said they'd get back to me in a few days after the first in-person, but it took over a week.
- What potential improvements do you see for our product?
Product Manager
I talked to some smart, down-to-earth, and seemingly underpaid folks at Golden Frog. The interview process involved a phone call and then three in-person interviews with different teams. It seems their current apps aren't making money or have clear goals, which makes it hard to know what they want in a PM, beyond 'fix this.' Each team had a different idea of what a PM does. I would have been open to helping change things, but not for such low pay. About 10 weeks in, they asked me for a fourth in-person interview. I asked about salary, and the top of their range was 30% less than what I told HR I was making. I was pretty annoyed they wasted my time only to offer so little. They don't do signing bonuses or really any bonuses. But the people seem cool, so maybe if you want a lifestyle job and don't care about the pay, it could work. Funny thing, they actually implemented one of my product ideas (a one-click button to pick the fastest server) during an interview. Either it was a crazy coincidence, or they used my idea without compensation. Honestly, don't bother.
- What value do you offer?
- What skills and experiences do you possess that would be beneficial for this role?
- What do you bring to the table?
Product Manager
After a good initial chat with the recruiter, I interviewed with the President and Hiring Manager. The hiring manager interview was pretty standard. I was supposed to get product access next and give feedback. But, the interview with the president was one of the worst ever. No questions about my job qualifications. Instead, they asked really inappropriate questions about my last company. It seemed like the president didn't even know what role I was applying for. It was unprofessional and some questions felt illegal.
