Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Golden 1 Credit Union.
Manager
The whole thing took over 2 months. Had one screening call and then three more interview rounds, one of which was with a panel. Then there was a final HM interview. After all the interviews, I waited almost 4 weeks, even following up a few times, just to be told they went with someone else. The questions were a mix of behavioral and role-specific stuff, really focusing on the STAR method and how it connects to results, metrics, and ROI. Honestly, the length of the process and the lack of respect for my time felt off, especially compared to the company’s values and the 'exceptional member service' they talk about. It left a really bad impression. My advice to the TA team is to treat candidates like members—some of us actually are—and provide a good experience that actually reflects the company’s values, since it’s member-owned. Not getting the job isn’t even the biggest letdown; it’s being ghosted and having a poor candidate experience that makes me question if the organization truly lives its values for employees, beyond just the awards.
- In your view, how do we define and track success to ensure it aligns with and supports the organization's objectives?
Manager
I applied online and a recruiter contacted me within 4 days to set up a phone screening. Weirdly, there was no follow-up for two weeks, and then a different recruiter scheduled another screening because the first one had quit. The second recruiter was professional though, and the call went well. After another two weeks, I was invited to interview with the hiring manager. The hiring manager was about 10 minutes late to the virtual interview and seemed distracted and unprepared. It looked like they were rushing. The questions weren't well-structured, but the interview seemed to go okay, and I was invited to an in-person interview. Then, about two weeks later, I got an invite for a virtual panel interview, which was strange since they'd mentioned an in-person one before. The virtual panel interview was awkward and lacked flow. The interviewers seemed robotic and unengaged, possibly made to be there. The HR moderator wasn't great, even asking a question twice because she hadn't been paying attention. I realized pretty quickly it wasn't a good fit due to the outdated technology, seemingly bored employees, and the company's overall outdated approach. The CEO's public image seems like a gimmick, and the low Glassdoor approval rating suggests the culture isn't as advertised.
- Have you ever taken on a leadership role beyond your official duties?
Manager
The process was very friendly and I got a callback after a week. They didn't make me feel uncomfortable at all. I was able to have a conversation without feeling like they were just asking questions back to back. It started off with questions and they asked other questions which felt like they were getting to know me. I would do it again.
