First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Goldberg Segalla.
Associate
Had 2 initial phone calls, the first one with HR was basically a screening. Then I had 2 in-person interviews, which involved flying out to NY. One of those was a conference call with the managing partner. Finally, there was another call with an out-of-office partner who I'd apparently be doing some work with.
- What is your familiarity with insurance defense litigation?
Systems Administrator
I initially applied through Indeed but didn't hear back and the listing expired. Then, a recruiter contacted me separately, confirming the position was still open and she would forward my resume. I had a video interview with the tech team lead, who was a few minutes late. He spent about 10 minutes giving an overview of the company and then mentioned we had to end the call in 15 minutes due to another meeting he had. A second interview was scheduled, but they decided not to proceed with my application.
- Can you tell me about your preferences and dislikes regarding tasks?
- What were the typical problems encountered when troubleshooting VDI?
- What were the common issues faced when troubleshooting servers?
Attorney
We had two video calls, both remote. First, I chatted with the main partners at the office I applied to. It was a more casual chat to see if I'd fit in and where I'd best land in a practice group, and for me to learn about them and the office vibe. Then, I had a second interview with four partners, each from a different US office but all in the same specific practice area. This part got more technical, focusing on my experience in that practice area and what I could contribute.
- What's prompting your departure from your current law firm?
- What motivates your interest in pursuing a career in big law?
- Could you detail your experience within [specific practice area]?
Client Services Specialist
After applying, I waited about a month to hear back. Then HR was playing phone tag to schedule interviews around the manager's availability. I had to drive back and forth and deal with parking, which was tough, and some managers did video calls so it could have all been done remotely. They asked questions that seemed to cover more than one of the jobs I applied for, and answering felt like a test because there were many correct ways to respond. I also felt like I was assessing their management style, communication, and attitudes during the interviews. After three interviews, I met with the CEO, who tested my knowledge rather than asking about the position itself. I was offered the job, but then didn't hear from HR for about three weeks, and my start date was a couple of weeks after that. This whole process was definitely timely. It's worth noting they don't mention the demanding attorneys that staff have to cater to, who can be rude and dismissive. I would have brought that up if I had known beforehand.
