The interview process was pretty disappointing, especially the first part. I was drawn to the company by their values and culture, and the tech challenge, but during the interview, there was a disconnect between what they say and how the conversation went. The interviewer acted like they were doing me a favor by talking to me, instead of having a real chat to see if we'd be a good fit. Their attitude felt dismissive, making it awkward. Interviews are tough enough without feeling like you're not being treated respectfully or like it's not a two-way street. It didn't align with the collaborative vibe they advertise.

I was contacted by a recruiter via referral. Then I had a phone screen with an engineer two days later. During the phone screen, the engineer talked about his current projects, I discussed my past projects and open source contributions, and we went over some technical questions about PHP, MySQL, and frontend scripting. I heard back about an onsite interview the next day. The onsite had six rounds with two backend engineers, one frontend engineer, a project manager, the CTO, and the CEO. We covered coding questions on data structures, algorithms, SQL queries, and OO design. The CTO was open about engineering details and explained my learning opportunities. The CEO asked about my background and my thoughts on charitable donations, specifically comparing GFM to other donation methods. I appreciated the interviewers being upfront about the pros and cons of working there and their passion for the company's vision. I got an offer three days later. I had other offers, so I negotiated my salary a bit, and they accepted my request.

I had a phone interview with someone in the engineering team, then they scheduled an onsite meeting for the next day. I went to their office for the onsite and did the interview. At the end, I spoke with HR. I asked about hearing back, and they said maybe Wednesday or Thursday. I didn't hear back Wednesday or Thursday. I waited a week and sent a follow-up email, but never got a response. The interview process was great until the end. I was disappointed by the conduct of the final parts of my application process, and felt it was rude not to get a rejection email.
